The 30th Anniversary Celebration Of Red Shirt Pride Day, Version 2.022!

For 30 years, since 1991, wearing a RED Shirt to Magic Kingdom® on the first Saturday of June has been an iconic kickoff to Pride month. The producers of Girls in Wonderland (19 years) and One Magical Weekend (11 years), Tidal Wave Bears (14 years) along with a strong alliance with other national, regional, and local non-profits are excited to announce 3 BIG IDEAS to continue and grow the RED Shirt tradition!

Red Shirt Pride Day

Around The World – Always The First Saturday In June

Global Initiative

In conjunction with the 30th Anniversary of Gay Disney version 2.022, imagine St. Patrick’s Day where everyone wears green on March 17th whether they are Irish or not. Then imagine that on the first Saturday of June that kindred spirits around the world wear RED in solidarity for diversity, equality, inclusion, safe expression, and kindness – RED Shirt Pride Day Around the World! (#rspd) This builds on the 30-year tradition of people traveling from all over the world to the Magic Kingdom® on the first Saturday of June. At one time, it grew to over 40,000 people but the original mission worked as you can now be gay every day at Disney. However, that is not true everywhere as we know.

RED Shirt Pride Day Around the World. How cool would that be?

We are inspired by the original 30 or 40 people with “kindred spirits” that bravely met at Magic Kingdom® back in 1991. Their courage that started out simply as a social gathering has grown to become one of the longest running, iconic events in LGBT+ history. To honor them, to educate others on this valuable part of LGBT history, and to continue the kindred spirit mission – not just at Walt Disney World® Resort and not just in Orlando – but around the world, we started the KindRED Pride Foundation.

Kind and RED

We believe in the Power of Kindness and we believe in the Power of RED. The red in the pride flag represents life. The original organizers chose this color in order to recognize other “kindred” spirits at that first gathering.

What better way to kick off Pride Month than all “kind” people around the world wearing RED as a celebration of life in all of its different colors, shapes, sizes, genders, orientations, nationalities, ages, abilities, and status; where the only real question is “Are you kind or are you not kind?”

Our mission is to honor the kindred spirit that started back in 1991 at the very first “LGBT Day at Magic Kingdom” as we search the world for Be Kind Champions. Be Kind Champions who will document evidence of kindness throughout the year and show solidarity on the first Saturday of every June by wearing RED! (#rspd)

1500+ ATHLETES

2500+ SPECTATORS

Athletics have been a life saver for many in our community over the decades. A great example are the hundreds of leagues around the world in many different sports and, of course, the Federation of Gay Games, which have been held since 1982 every 4 years.

Why not introduce athletics to the kick-off of Pride Month? Especially when Walt Disney World® Resorts and Orlando have world-class-sports-venues proximate to all theme parks and entertainement venues.

Join us at The Pride Cup where The Federation of Gay Games is a proud sponsor.

OVER 900 BIKES DELIVERED TO DESERVING CHILDREN OVER THE PAST 17 YEARS

The Kindred Pride Foundation adopted Santa’s Bike Force in 2020, a “Just an Idea…” campaign that started in 2003 with a small group of Elves who organized a bike drive on Christmas Eve and delivered 55 bikes to Kids in Distress. Since then, they have donated over 900 bikes to “first time” bike riders. The mission is to expand this “Just an Idea…” campaign to communities all over the world where deserving children can experience the “freedom and joy” of getting their first bike!

Our Mission

The KindRED Pride Foundation’s mission is to honor the kindred spirit, bravery, and courage of the original RED Shirt Pride Day attendees by bringing the community together to celebrate our differences as well as our oneness and to support endeavors by like-minded charities within the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex, and Ally community (LGBTQIA) by producing sporting, music, and other special events. Our mission includes a global initiative for the first Saturday in June each year where all LGBT+ persons and allies wear a RED shirt as a message of solidarity and our KindRED spirit.
